    I've never seen this bifocal...

Anyone know what it's called? It looked like a ST and the bottom was circular as usual, but the top had a slight curve instead of being straight. The center of the line was about 1-2mm higher than the edges.
I can see the benefit of it (I'm guessing it puts the OC more into the bifocal and not so close to the top of the seg giving a better field of view).
I have never seen it before, and I wanted to learn about it. Any info is much appreciated!

Note: I'm not talking about a round or Ultex style.

Sounds like a old curve top to me...I think it was a B&L design.

The ones I've seen have been worn by people from Europe ~ maybe it's a more popular lens over "there" ... LOL ??

Is it still available? This lady was very insistant that I do all I could to match her current set up. She is very sensative to changes...
I'm not sure about this, but I would think that the curve vs. flat top wouldn't change the amount of prism in the segment...or would it?
Add is 2.75, so even if it's 2mm, that's only a change of half dioptor of prism, right?

I think Southern Optical in Greensboro, NC may have it. I have seen those before and at that time used this lab.

Ah, southern, the lab that made me bang my head against the wall...lol
I had the WORST experience with them, even though I know they even got Lab of the Year, right? Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try.

I assume we're talking about a plastic lens, or glass?
Weren't the original Rodenstock Aspheric Flattops curved like that also?
Indo's Superfin also has a curved top.

    Yep......

I'd bet it's one of those Rodenstock Cosmolite bifocals. I liked them when they came out with them. Nice aspheric design in cr-39 for Plus rx's. Are the current lenses Plus?? Chris..

Lens is a curve top. Check Indo www.Indo.es , Zeiss ,and I think Rodenstock used to make them as well.

A lot of Europeans will present with these.

    Chris,
The current lenses are plus and CR-39. However, she just had cat surg so now it's minus a quarter with some cyl.

    My lab says......

That either the Cosmolite bifocal or a lens by Bristol called Bristol-lite(curve-top also) is still available and can be done in the Rx you mentioned so Go-for It! Chris.. Both lenses are cr-39 only..

    Thanks Chris!
I guess I'd better leave well enough alone and stick with what she's used to. Thanks again to everyone!

Standard curve top bi. AO used to call them a "Sovereign". The last pair I needed came from Laramy-K

The lenses are aspheric and will cost you more than standard cr-39. You better call and get a quote on the lenses.

If the top curves slightly down it's a panafocal (or panofocal) by B&L. Completly eliminated jump on going into seg. Dropped because it was too expensive to make.

Never seen any that were aspheric. They were always spherical, especially the glass ones.

Bristolite and Cosmolit are both aspheric.

Are they plastic? That would help us. Some people are thinking OLD OLD lens designs

Center of bifocal is about 2mm higher than edges of bifocal. Curved up I guess.
