Never heard of such lens material.

Poly is hard when cured.............nylon is very soft and flexible and would not the best material for lens curves.

    Nylon lenses?

It says "optically corrected nylon lenses" on this sunglasses product page:
    http://www.sunglasses-int.com/BATR3BDT.html

On this page (from the same company) there is a reference to "Syntro" lenses.
    http://www.smithsport.com/technology...materials.html

Is that their trade name for nylon lenses?

I think there has been a movement in recent years towards more flexible plano lenses in wrap style nylon frames from some of the sports/sun eyewear manufacturers - my impression from various websites that I have visited.

I've seen these lenses and should have figured they were nylon but never really thought about it.

Still seems like the optical quality can't be as good through them though.

    Nylon Lens

The lens you refer to as Nylon is most likely a polyamide material. I think people within the plano industry refer to these polyamide lenses as NYLON. A polyamide covers a broard range of products from products used in the production of replacement auto parts that were originally metal to a lens or frame material.

They could also be the NXT lens material made by intercast under license from Simula Technologies the Owner of the patent on the material used for prescription lenses by PPG called TRIVEX.

These would have similar properties such as great for rimless, excellent optics etc.

    Difference in Nylon and PC

A polyamide (nylon) lens is lighter weight than a PC lens.

This nylon will also make a different sound when you tap the lens on a flat surface.

The nylon is more flexible than PC.

NXT can be made with different flexibility, depending on the formulation.

Depending on the hard coating the scratch resistance should be about equal. PC is a softer material without scratch resistant hard coating.

You can just bend the lens if you need to read something closer to you!
    Nice!
