    Tv Expose Eyeglasses/Eye Exam

This is a link to a television news expose on knock off eyewear and unlicensed eye exams.

The amazing thing is probably how long this guy has probably been operating a successful illegal Optical, caught only by a rare chance incident. This in Ontario, Canada. I'm sure it happens plenty here in the U.S. too.

I use that exact system here in Alberta where it is totally legal. Ontario is one of the latest provinces to get theses systems so they are going through what BC and Alberta went through several years ago...I love my Eyelogic setup here and wouldn't trade it for anything!!

    Mike,

    1. He is not using the Eyelogic system from what I can see, he's manually refracting. He's also a very bad boy.

    2. The Eyelogic system has been in Ontario for a while and our laws make it clear that it is not legal to use. The fact that some opticians (and some non-opticians) feel free to use it is a reflection on the legal system.

Even ignoring our differences in opinion on refracting I'm surprised you would stick up for this guy, unless you didn't watch the whole video?

I'll bet it's an eyelogic...but he sure has a nasty disposition. Not too proffessional! You Ontarians sure have a bad apple or two. I guess they can be found everywhere though. What I don't understand is why was he giving the woman an RX to show her doctor...doesn't make any sense. In the final stage of an eyelogic test we give the client a choice by saying which one do you prefer #1 or #2 as we give them a glimpse of the subjective rx or their old rx....which sounded like what he was asking.
We would tell the client that the Ophthalmologist will be faxing over an rx, not playing doctor like he was doing.

Question can we merge 2 threads on the same topic?

there's another thread about this in the Canadian forum. Is there a way to put the 2 together?
