    Recommendation needed!

Hello.. I just joined this forum and I am so thrilled I found you all. What an incredible forum, all the help that I need. ;)

I have started my practice about 1 year ago and I am still unsure about some PAL.

I have been using Varilux products strictly but I hear that less expensive lenses are just as good.

Can you recommend me a good PAL (soft design) and (hard design for narrow corridor) that are not Varilux? at reasonable price?

Some recommendation I have received from Opticians in the area are

    (Soft design)
    1) Adaptar
    2) Natural
    3) Sola XL
    4) Navigator

    (Hard design)
    1) Solamax
    2) Navigator short

What do you guys (experts) think? Thanks for help in advance

    Me too

Many years from now, you will still be unsure. But you will be more comfortable with your unsureity.
You will get more opinions on this thread than you can digest, so I suggest you read Dr Sheedy's paper published earlier this year comparing PALs.
Here is my short list of favorite lenses, based on value and performance

I think all are better performers at better price points than their Varilux competitors

I've had decent luck with Sola XL, which is priced very competitively if you shop the right places. I only use the XL as an economy lens. I don't know if it's right or wrong, it just what I have done.

I haven't used enough Navigator, Adaptar, or SolaMax to have any opinions.

There, I made it through the entire post without badmouthing Essilor or Varilux even once.

I would be remiss if I didn't suggest you look at Polycore products. We offer 2 PALs, Futurise (18 hi) and Micro (16 hi). Contact Vicki at JS Milam Optical in Nashville for pricing (615-242-3372). I'm sure you will be plesantly surprised.

    Thank you for your reply.

Can you tell me who makes Image? This lens has been recommended by many and I can't find it in the list of products from my lab.

The younger image is a fantastic PAL design that we use quite often and recomment to our offices.

Younger Optics. I have used the Image progressive lens for so many patients and have found no adaptation issues percentage-wise as compared to other lenses we use. This is a very affordable lens and it comes in so many different materials, trans, polarized etc.....

You should ask your lab about them. They also have wonderful POP including handouts in English and Spanish.

Image ot listed in your Lab price list?

I beleive that the Younger Image is a top-ten progressive based on unit sales. If your lab does not have it listed, you should wonder why. Could it be that the lab is owned by a lens manufacturer? When you hire and pay a lab, I would make sure they work for you and not someone in France. Time to find a new lab.

Well, you asked what I thought.
