    Question Floaters

We have a local MD who claims he can eliminate floaters with the YAG lazer at a higher setting. He claims to have done this procedure more than anyone in the US. ALL the other MDs in town think it's a very dangerous procedure and don't endorse it. I really wish there was a way to elimanate the floaters I've suffered with most of my life. Has anyone else know of another MD doing the same operation?

    Thumbs down

I have read or heard about this procedure in the past. I don't know much about it, except for the fact that if he is the only one in your town that is for it...........I'd pass!!!!!!! Mullo

    Confused

I don't know it doesn't sound safe to me. The MD's I work for have both said their is nothing they can do for floaters. I would not attempt it it I were you. I myself have lived with them for as long as I can remember. As far as I am concerned I would love to get rid of mine also but I am not going to put myself at any risk either. We have a yag laser in the office and I am sure that if it were safe we would be doing it also. I am going to see what the opinions of the MD's are tomorrow and get back to you.

    Have a great day!!!

    Hi,
I advise patients with floaters to forget about them. The more you think of floaters, the more they are going to harrass you.
Floaters are generally harmless, could be due to high myopia or ageing but they can be indication of serious eye problems like pending retinal detachment, tears or vitreous tears or detachment etc.
If you notice sudden change in pattern of your floaters, you should consult your MD immediately.
Keep your eye frequently examined by MD.
    Thanks,
    Sara

:bbg: Hi Mullo!! Everything is WONDERFUL at the new office. The people are actually friendly to me which is something I am not used to but very much liking the new concept. Everyday is filled with excitement. Things I normally would never get to see I am actually a part of. I totally enjoy every minute I am there. Thank the LORD!! I am very happy to be a part of helping these people. I have cried over a few of them I must confess. People just don't realize how devastating losing vision can be. My heart just truly goes out to them. I have learned so much there as well as about myself. Thank you for asking!!!

    Have a great day!!!

    Exclamation Floaters

Sure are a lot of M.D.'s claiming to do a lot of things more than anyone else in the U.S. Is one upsmanship all they can do in their bracket?

Have heard of someone in Baton Rouge or N.O. that does floater surgery. But it seems awfully risky for a nusence problem.

    Question

I have a floater. It's small and hardly noticeable. I THINK I remember getting it when I got a briar stuck in my eye as a kid. Does that sound possible? I have always wondered.

Pretty typical negative floater responses here. Most people don't understand how much floaters can affect the quality of life. Nor do they care. I guess it's ignorance. I've been evaluated by Dr. Geller here in Fort Myers and I'm going to have the procedure. When I'm done with it, I'll post my results. I'm very confident there is nothing to worry about and it's safe. I really can't wait!

This thread peaked my interest because I have had floaters for many of the past years. They can be distracting at times, but also they just disappear. Annoying but nothing to worry about, after having my doctor check for detached retina or tears. For some interesting feedback on Virectomy surgery check this out

    Some interesting feedback.

While I am not opposed to having the vitrectomy if it is really affecting the quality of your life, are you really sure it is what you want to do? I hope that you have decided that it is definately a procedure you want. There are plenty of risks that go along with the sx...I am not trying to talk you out of it I just want to make sure you have weighed all your pros and cons. I wish you all the best and keep us updated on the procedure. The MD's I used to work for didn't do the procedure...I will have to ask the new MD I work for. Once again I have changed jobs....I will find what I am looking for one day.
