    uneven pupil height

I have a pt. that has 2 mm difference in pupil height and I am making a progressive. The frame is pretty much unadjustable. It is a drillmount and wide temples. The od should have been at 17 and the os at 19.

Now I have already made the glasses once, and put both the oc's at 18, (bottom of pupil)her first progressive. She had almost no head movement od to right and left. The vision was clean only dead center looking. The os had twice the area to move before blurry. Even if I bring down the frame on her nose alittle she still says the od has no right to left movement in the lens. Would 1mm cause this lack of head motion. She is in a a/r ovation and I measure at the bottom of the pupil instead of center.

Why did'nt you put the seg heights at what you found? You have made the glasses incorrect. Many patients have uneven pupil heights. I have seen variances greater than 5mm. Redo the glasses properly, and all will be well. Lesson learned. Best of luck!

    Good boy Fezz, perfect answer.

I just would like to add that often the pupil heights are different on a sample because the ears are not at an even height, and the optician measure a different pupil height on the lenses not seeing that the frame is slightly higher on one side.

The frame should be adjusted to the correct level before taking the height measurement.

I have had patients with 6 mm or more difference (facial injury, orbit bone damage, etc.) Use "as measured" seg. and Vertical O.C. heights.

I don't know of any polite way of asking what someone is doing fitting progressives, or any other lens for that matter, without even rudimentary knowlege of how to do it.

I agree, but in Pamela's defense one is only as good as their training I recently ran in to an optician of twenty years experience who questioned split pds and oc heights on sv poly in something like -6.00 with -1.50 cyl. hopefully her question here will help her learn. Acurate measurments are seldom symetrical but far too many choose easy over proper.
