    Big Smile Poly vs. Plastic

May sound dumb but I cannot find a good enough explanation to give to other sales associates or customers as to why some patients cannot see well out of polycarbonate but can out of plastic. I understand the reasoning behind it but can anyone help me come up with a good sound explanation?

    Thank YOU

Let me make a small correction..............plastic can be anything, even polycarbonate is plastic......however I assume you mean CR39

Best vision you get with glass.

The closest lens to glass, made in plastic is a lens made with CR39. The curves and clarity are close to glass.

Polycarbonate is a higher index lens and made with flatter curves which reduces the feel of good vision. It is popular because it is unbreakable.

    Thanks!

That is a great explanation! Thank You!

I did mean CR39...sorry I shouldn't have put plastic since polycarbonate is a plastic.

    Thanks again

Actually the best lenses were made of Brazillian Quartz until they ran out of pieces large enough to make spectacles out of.

Heck, no, acetone has been getting more expensive lately and I keep some barrels of it in stock.

However there are quite some other chemicals besides acetone that will destroy Poly slow or overnight.

Here is one that probably nobody has ever heard of:

    Insect Repellant

Just think of the guy or girl wearing rimless polycarbs....and the mosquitos make an attack on the forehead................you drip the OFF or equivalent and spray it on your face. Some of it might go into the drill holes and you lenses start cracking.

and otherwise for starters how about ..........................

benzene, gasoline, acetone, and carbon dioxide, paints and various solvents

Mineral oils are the usual ingredients for repellents, but I could not tell you eactly which one.
