    points

i think we should do away with it, as it serves little if any useful purpose, all you need is someone who does not like someone and there is the potential for negative points, there is also a number of people on here who have contributed a lot and have some of the fewest points. if you dont like someones post , dont bother with it

Harry, I could not agree any more.....................just wanted to add that this is a way of flattering or punching somebody in an even more anonymous way than come out and say so.

System should be scrapped..........I never even bothered with it until it just came up.

To me, the rep points are just something else to play with on the board.

If they were used to gauge a member's professional reputation they might actually be useful. But should you discount a work related post from an experienced member because he/she caught a lot of flak for posting that toilet paper should go "over" instead of "under" the roll? :bbg:

I think it is useful if it is positive. Useless if negative. I have been dinged a couple of times speaking my mind on a certain topic. I took a stance that has been vocal by many for a long time, I did not swear, cuss, nor was I rude, but I presented a point that conflicted someones interest, so I was dinged.

But I have also received many positive reps for taking a stance on something proper, or taking a different stance. I think that is what we as a board should be encouraging.

I say keep the negatives as long as they can't be anonymous. That would stop people from give them out over stupid things. Whenever I leave feedback I try to post my name.

I never post my name when I leave feedback because I never post negative points. If I don't agree with someones opinion then I stop reading that persons posts or threads, but to take away a point earnd by impressing someone with their knowledge, or making someone laugh would be wrong. I have got on the board and vented once or twice myself and have been hit with a negative point or two myself, it's not that important unless their is a prize someone forgot to tell me about. :bbg:

In the spirit of political correctness these slanderous and hurtful ratings should be eliminated. Alternately, you could assign everyone a five greenie rating. We don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings here, now do we.

Is there no justice. . .?!?

I turned it off. I'm sure that I've recieved negative points. It really doesn't matter. I come to this board to learn, vent and share with my peers. Being a bit of a smarta$$ I'm sure I've offended someone. It wasn't done on purpose and I apologize publicly when I'm aware that its occurred. Its kind of like real life. You get through as best you can and you try to be a decent human being.

It amazes me that this topic keeps coming up. Keep them, don't keep them whatever works. I'm still going to have my favorites and those I'm not so thrilled with. I am going to try and learn from everybody.

At times I've been inclined to disable negative reputation, then I'm reminded of Lake Wobegon where 'all children are above average'. How politically correct would that be? ;)

Negative reputation comments should require identification of the member posting the comment- otherwise, the feedback system should be deactivated (IMO)...

Up until now I was unaware that there was a rating system in place. I believe that most active optiboard members have impressions about different people here and weigh the value of postings accordingly. I never viewed this forum as a popularity contest but as a viable medium to learn about new product, exchange ideas and to seek/offer assistance. A member with a negative rating does not necessarily lesson the value of their postings nor does a member with many positive ratings give more credibility to what they have to say. I do like how the little green boxes look on my computer screen so even if Steve opts to trash the rating system I hope we keep the little green squares.

It's been so long since I've checked, probably at least a year. It's not something I think about frankly. I wouldn't be surprised is some consumers have been trashing me lately.
