    Online Sunglasses

    Hi,
I've been looking to buy prescription sunglasses from the local eyecare centers but they say they can't make a sports wrap in my prescription. Of course, I was pretty bummed out by it becuase I really wanted to get nice sunglasses to wear around and play sports with. I went to heavyglare.com and they claim they can make sports wraps with high prescription. What do you guys think? Is there a better place to buy them or is it just not possible to get sports wraps without getting an Rx Insert? My prescription is:
    Dist: Sphere Cyl Axis
    O.D.: -5.75 -0.25 50
    O.S.: -6.35 -0.25 90

    I was looking at these:
    OCC Sunglasses 502
    OCC Sunglasses 503
    Nike Flywheel Volano
    Nike Tarj Classic
    Nike Tarj Round
    Rudy Project Ekynox SX
    Rudy Project Apache SX

    Thanks for your help:)

    Here we go again!!

Local opticals are bogus and uneducated so how about sapping the knowledge from us Optiboarders and purchase online!!

    Great.
    Sorry can't help.

This is why seeing a person in person and a licenced optian does help.

With your RX in those frames you would have the ugliest looking pair of glasses either. Last year I was looking at a frame similar and my lenses were going to be thick as heck. I have a very similar RX. My suggestion to you is instead of getting a wrapped pair, get a sporty pair with a thicker arm.

This is the one I went with last year. Just to give you an idea. It is a Bolle Groove.

An expert in wraps will have and show you frames much better suited to your Rx as a wrap, rather than goin' with the (default) 8D base lenses. I would find a 16 degree wrap-angle frame that has 6D base lenses in it, and then supply 5D base poly lenses, fully wrap compensated with Darryl's compensator 2.5 (which I use extensively).

No one ever said *wrap* style must be on an 8 base curve. The onlye reason we think this way is that this is the way wrap suns have mostly been designed...up till now.

Think of 8 Base wraps like the " 3.5 & 5" floppy disk" of older computers. Technology now exists to make everyone's life better with wraps.

Don't get stuck on 8 base...or you'll get stuck with an unhappy purchase

    My 2 cents

I have to agree that you would not be happy with your Rx in a wrapped lens.

Either the cosmetics are going to suffer greatly or you will end up with very extreme tunnel vision.

Beware of buying online; your optician "could" put your Rx in a wrap frame but he knows you will be back very upset; the online company probably could care less if you are actually happy with your purchase (or can see).
    MOJO

I have made many of those for dumbass opticians that insisted. They mostly looked like crap. The fromt lens surface has to be somewhat flat and the lens bevel has to be wrapped. Good luck. Please let us know here how you come out.

What sports are you into? My brother rides motorcycles, my sister-in-law is a mountain bike enthusiast. Then there's golf, tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, ping-pong, cricket, swimming, shooting and scuba diving. Just to name a few.

There is a lens solution to every activity. What are you trying to do?

    Strong Rx in Wrap frame

    My prescription is:
    Dist: Sphere Cyl Axis
    O.D.: -5.75 -0.25 50
    O.S.: -6.35 -0.25 90
Your prescription can be made in a wrap and your local optician can help you. Have them contact my company ICE-TECH Advanced Lens Technologies. We have developed special lens processing techniques for your needs and your local optican can order these from us.

They can e-mail us: info@ice-tech.com or call us 904-247-2627.

They will cost you more than standard lenses but we produce the highest quality polarized lens available.
