I do consignment with three companies right now.
I know Jai Kudo does it in the US.
Most of them do it..........................just ask any rep passing by.Originally Posted by markssunwear
Thsi is why frame have become more expensive than they should be. Frame wholesalers have to take back loads of frames that the customers on consignment do not want anymore and have to be thrown out.
Of course the frame wolesaler has to calculate this fact into his selling prices and therfore overprice his frames.
One more reason for the existence of manufacturer owned optical chain stores.............they supply the come backs returned frames to their own stores and sell them again. Therefore they make a double profit............first they overprice by calculating the to discard come back frames, but now they can actually sell them too.
Not in the US! Very few of the larger compaines do it at all. Only a few smaller no name venders are doing it here.Originally Posted by Chris Ryser
VSP does it. Lawrence on some lines. Jai kudo. Most of the other compainies that do it olny do it for larger stores.
Try Kenmark and Silver Dollar. I used to have quite a bit of consignment. It can get to be out of control and hard to keep track of after a couple of years:shiner: . If you can stay on top of it it does work out pretty well.
You may also check with some wholesale labs that also distribute frames; for example the Mount eyewear collection could be gotten on consignment.
Chris, even in Canada most of them will not.Originally Posted by Chris Ryser
As near as I can tell consigned frames are available to physician owned dispensaries only (the have unlimited resources in the event of business failure) in our area. Possibly available to some large O.D. firms but not to independent opticians.
