I'm not really defending these people but,

I used to know a very fine older ophthalmologist who had black hairs growing on the exterior of his nose, and ears. I used to wonder why he or his wife didn't take care of this as he was a rather fastidious man in every other way. As I grew older and more presbyoptic along with my wife, I began to realize that you can't see these things without your glasses. Of course I realized at this point that we could make a fortune if we could just promote glasses and mirrors for these people without somehow insinuating that they were no longer fastidious.

Thought of phrases like: Shaving glasses, grooming glasses, etc. Never quite came up with the approach that I was happy with enough to try though.

Much the same logic could apply to a mass promotion of quadrafocals for mechanics, pilots, painters and the like, we just don't use a mass approach. We do some on an individual basis but nothing to make the general public aware. If we did we would make as much money as we did when they added another collum to the phone book. Tremendous boost for bifocal sales and upgrades.

    Chip

Kind of sorry I said this as I am sure the evil empire will jump on it now.

    YES!

But how? Maybe, just maybe, if they could see the hairs growing from the tip of their nose, they could also see that wonderous accumulation of matter growing from their nosepads, too!

What always gets me is the high plusses who have about a centimeter of accumulation growing towards the center of the lenses themselves, off of the nosepads. You know the stuff; its usually kinda brownish and opaque, and often is really difficult to remove even after soaking the glasses. Its like they wipe the center of the lenses but don't go near the nosepads for fear they'll damage them or something.

Lets figure out a tactful approach of gently suggesting a pair of 'makeup glasses' or 'shaving glasses', ok? any suggestions????

    green face cheese

If you suited up in a hazmat suit before changing some of those nosepads.....they still wouldn't get it. Don't you think they'd take the hint when they can hear you gagging the whole time you're chipping the cheese off those things?

Part of an opticians continous service is...........or should be.........to come by for an adjustment and an ultrasonic cleaning.............to put the frame straight...........and get rid of nose, head, ear and eyebrow cheese.

You can charge for such a service...............or give it for free............include it in your selling price.

Are dentist's do your periodic teeth cleaning for free ??? Why should the optician?

Do an adjustment for free and charge for a periodic adjustment, by the same time you see the customer and keep in contact, while you make a few bucks, compare to a car wash, only you remove nano particles of rotting grease.

    Advertising example:

    Anderson Optical

    offers new service.
Have your glasses regularly nano cleaned and desinfected to
prevent infection or disease, for $ 10.00 only.
At the same time we will check the fit of your glasses and re-adjust them for free.

You will never gag removing nose cheese anymore and make some money on top of it.

Riiiiiiight, Chris............ like they'd pay for that any more willingly than they pay for new nosepads 3 years past the best before date of the originals that came with the frame!

I'm sometimes almost (I stress, almost) rendered speechless when someone comes in for an adjustment/pad replacement on glasses they purchased down the road/across town/ in the next town and once the work is done head straight for the door with nary an offer to pay, then, when stopped by my "and that will be $6. please" turn around with a blank look and reply "you mean there's a charge for that????? XYZ Optical always does it for free!"

the guy we had in yesterday I am sure does not bathe, and if he does it is probably only monthly or bi-monthly. He was from up North. I am sure he has never had a hair cut or a shave in many years.

    I am not exaggerating either.

Christmas time is a rather slow time for me here in this mall so one day when it really quiet and the mall was full of Christmas shopper I set up my Ultrasonic cleaner and hot air blower an offer to free cleaning and adjustment. I was surprise at how many people refused the service.

Most of you would be surprised at how many times our customers will send something like this to the lab for new lenses. We charge $5.00 if it's easy to remove, $10 if it isn't. Most of our customers pay willingly.

    Gross!!!

dry-heaving at all of this! Thanx alot!!

But seriously.....why IS it that the stuff looks like that crap you scrap from the bottom of a lawn mower?!?!?! What I hate most is when you have to adjust the frame with all the cheese on it and you heat it up and it brings to life all the things he or she comes in contact with......cigarettes, deep-fried whatever, you NAME IT!!! I need to throw up now....:p
