Just curious about what other opticians take in for commission these days!

Think all opticians who are willing to work hard put in at lest 70 hrs. a week and increase business 20% a year should make a commission of 35%
and that's the percentage it should be.
I'm of the belief that we're OPTICIANS; not electronics sales people. Or car salesmen, or appliance salesmen, or telemarketers, for that matter. Do you recognise what all aforementioned sales associates have in common? As a consumer, for many of us, having to make a purchase from a commissioned sales person strikes a note of dread into the process. A commissioned sales person will only be thinking of their bottom line while 'guiding' you through the purchase decision. I, on the other hand, am thinking about what is indeed best for the client, and knowing that a happy client has a better chance of returning for their next eyewear purchase than a client who has been 'sold' something under the pressure exerted by a commissioned optical person.
Just my humble opinion.
Ok, I'm ready for the onslaught of arguement against my stand.
(and btw, I will go to the ends of the earth to make a purchase from a non-commissioned sales person for whatever I am in the market for, and steadfastly refuse to purchase anything from a telemarketer or mlm scheme)
Cindy -
I agree. NO commission. Reasonable wage? YES!
incentives on low breakage (redo's), profit sharing and bonus on certification/licensure. Oh - and spiffs on customer letters praising the service they received from their optician!
