Differences between US and UK "Opticianry"

Hi! I'd love to hear your comments and/or experiences regarding differences betwen "Opticianry" in the US and the UK. I am an ABDO qualified dispensing and contact lens optician with 6 years experience working for a large UK optical chain. I have relocated to the US and plan to return to work in 12 months or so. I would be grateful for any advice you may have which might help to ease the transition! Thanks in advance.

You will need to stay registered and do the CET it would seem.

Thanks...I've started a "home study" course with a view to taking the ABO exam in California. One area I'm in the dark about is insurance billing....I'm hoping my lack of experience in that area won't be a problem, presumably I can learn through experience? Is it a big part of the job here in the US?

This is one of the main complaints us old farts have about the changes in ABO. What in the hell does insureance billing have to do with opticianry?
