Confused Why two exams for one pair of eyes??

I recently had an eye exam and was given a prescription for progressive lenses. I found that I will need a separate pair of progressives for the office environment. The eye doctor wants to do another exam for this purpose. Why wouldn’t the current prescription be used to order the office (computer / reading) progressives. I don’t like the idea of having to pay for another exam as my insurance will only cover one per year.

Simple, he won't really have to do anything but ask you what distance you want to see at and he can get two fees for a small computation or reading a chart for that matter.

    Greed knows no bounds.

Most doctors wont charge if it is within a reasonable amount of time to your initial exam. All he will need to do is a refraction to see how far your computer is and know about what areas you will see through. A certified optician or tech can also do this for you as it is just adjusting your reading prescription. it is a good idea to bring with you any font size that you work most comonly with (ex. if you work with very small print contracts or your normal computer font is also small) If your doctor is not $$$ hungry, he won't charge because he is taking care of your needs and you will be back in the next year or two (not to mention any recommendations you give to your friends or family)

    Nosee,

You have posted 3 separate threads on your progressive issues.

    http://www.optiboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17524

In each one we have directed you back to your ECP. I recommend that you take that advice.

I would also like to remind you of the OB posting guidelines for consumers:

Consumers are allowed to post on the Board, as long as the posts concern general eyecare related topics. However please be aware that any questions that involve diagnosing specific eyecare and eyewear problems are not appropriate for an online discussion forum. These kinds of questions should be discussed with a qualified eyecare professional who has examined you and is familiar with your situation. Posts asking for diagnostic help will be closed or removed.
