    shamir office prescribing

i have a computer user who's Rx is +1.00 add +2.00 o.u. and needs a drillable near vision lens, so I guess shamir poly office is the one to use. Any tips on prescribing for these, or do your just set them up like a regular progressive?

(when will the tact lens come out in trivex????)

    Shamir Office

    Hi Dr. Stacy,

You prescribe and order the same exact way as you would for a progressive: distance Rx and Add Power.

And, fit the Office the same way: Monocular distance PD's and Monocular PD's/Fitting Cross.

The lab will choose the blank with a dynamic power (drop off of power) that best suits the Add Rx.

Verify them at near, not at distance. And, of course, remind your patient that they are great for tasks in small environments, not meant for driving or movies...

    OK Dr Stacy I'll bite!
Why is the Shamir office lens the lens of choice?
Did you know you can adjust the distance "dynamic" for those patients who want a focus of 48 inches and less?
Just today I tried on a patients similar Rx standard dynamic with pd's off 5mm or so.

    WOW what an intermediate!

Made me feel like the ANSI page on the wall behind my Vertometer was half again as big BUT was somewhat tapered and looked like the image you get when you looked through a 3D "viewfinder". Again this was not to my (mild) rx or fitting specs but it seems to me a lens I'd recommend to a patient with proper instruction.
The proof will come if I can get our receptionist a comp pair to put to a test (many trials for her, no Eureka's on "office style" lenses) oh-- and and get our main lab to carry Shamir!

I'm beginning t like the Hoya Tact because it gives good distance vision along with great int and near vision. Unfortunately it comes only in cr39 now, and the patient wanted drilled rimless, so I found Shamir (are there others?) as the only lens around like that.

Not sure why I'd want to adjust the distance dynamic. The other poster and my lab agrees with just ordering them like any progressive and let the lab pick the dynamic. I do want my patient to be able to see across the room. Hopefully her near and int will be adequate...

What is the minimum fitting height for the Office? What B measurement do you need for the frame?

    Shamir Office Fitting Heights

    Hello,

The recommended fitting height for the Shamir Office lens is 16mm, and the recommended 'B' is 29 - 30mm, to give optimum results of 13mm on the top portion.

    Hope this helps,

We've had alot of luck with this lens. . .

We've used it for motorcycle mechanics, caterers, potrait painters and HVAC techs. Its an amazingly versitle lens.

The recommended minimum fitting height for the Shamir Office is 19 but 22+++ is optimum.

Varilux Liberty comes in poly, min. rec. fit height is 18. Instant add, makes a great computer lens. (although not marketed as such)

    fitting height for office

    Hi Optigirl,

You may be thinking of the Shamir Genesis or Creation, which are recommended at 19mm, however, the office is recommended at 16mm, as is the Shamir Piccolo.

If you are thinking of something drillable you can use the Nikon Online in 1.6 or 1.67, or the Sola Access Poly.

FYI, when you order that office lens, be sure to let your lab know that you have provided them with the dist/read prescription, or they'll think you've already transposed it. Second, my reps have always told me to take the seg ht. at the bottom of the pupil/top of the iris. I've always done it this way, and never had a problem!
    Good luck!

Just about any multifocal lens, if the focal lengths are correctly adjusted for the client's work distances, will out perform proprietary computer/office lenses, except for reasonably sharp distance vision capability. To refresh my memory I put a pair of Office lenses in my trial frame (an extra frame that I use to evaluate lens designs)- there is some increase in distance acuity if I look through the top most part of the lens but I have to tuck my chin down almost against my chest.

However, my regular computer glasses (Genesis, +2.25 add split...+1.25 top, new add +1.00) provide better acuity when looking at the monitor, with much wider vertical and horizontal fields of vision. I can ID my clients reasonably well at 20', and can comfortably walk around the office (although hyperopes will feel less at ease when moving around than myopes).

Do you mean that the fitting cross is not at the center of the pupil?
