I'm looking to purchase a copy of Sasieni's Principles and Practice of Optical Dispensing and Fitting (1975). If anyone has a copy you could part with, in good condition, please let know.

AbeBooks currently has 3 copies, (thought two are dated 1962) for sale.

Thanks. I've ordered one.

Is this book any good? Or are you just adding to your collection?
Both. It was a very comprehensive book in its day. (While I would've preferred the 1975 third edition, I'll have to settle for the 1962 edition.) Anyway, I recently got my income tax refund, so I'm splurging a bit.

I remember getting Lou Sasseini as a practical examiner in my first year of studies. I, along with many of my friends failed the first sitting. It was a well known fact that he didn't pass many students. Still I got there in the end!

Hello Darryl,
unfortunately I can't help with the book. However would welcome the opportunity to talk to you regarding aspheric lenses--longer discussion.

Call any time.

You're not the same Michael Walach who invented the blended flat-top, by any chance, are you (not that I can imagine too many Michael Walachs running around this industry ;))?

I found a 3rd Edition and now have an extra First Edition of Sasieni's Principles and Practice of Optical Dispensing and Fitting. So I thought it might be fun to have some sort of contest to award some marginally lucky OptiBoader with my extra copy. (For those of you unfamiliar with the text, it's basically a book on fitting and dispensing spectacle lenses -- the British equivalent of Brooks and Borish's System for Ophthalmic Dispensing.) Does anyone have any suggestions for a potential contest? For that matter, does anyone even have any interest in a British text on fitting and dispensing? ;)

Hello Darryl, yes i have an interest in it, but will go along with any contest
Hi Daryl,
yes, the same handsome and humble Michael Walach. But it wasn't quite "blended bifocal" :finger:!

I never actually saw one, but that's how our old lab rep described it many years ago.But it wasn't quite "blended bifocal

Great idea! You could post an equation that we would need to figure out. Or you could have some one do a good natured stunt like find a way to get on tv holding a sign that says OPTIBOARD and thier screen name:DOriginally Posted by Darryl Meister
Bravo Darryl, I like the idea of a contest. Make it some thing challenging. Like working out a progressive polynomial equation on the board step by step. Or give a specific Rx and base curve and have someone work out a atoric lens design for it. Just some ideas. I would be willing to throw in $40.00 through paypal to whomever wins.Originally Posted by Darryl Meister

Donn, Harry, While posing a difficult optical question will almost certainly result in unbridled fun and entertainment, I think we might need to come up with a contest with a little broader appeal. ;)

Like I said get some one to attend a professional sporting event or show up at that window behind the people at the today's show (or what ever show it is) with a sign. Who ever has the most optiboarders spot them wins.
I had something a little simpler in mind... Like identifying the participant with the most OptiBoard referrals by a certain date or something.

That sounds doable and it helps to grow this community. To make it fair it should be new referals as of a certain date. So the newbys have just as equal of a chance as some of the older optiboarders.Originally Posted by Darryl Meister
