I would love to see something created for the optical industry - non medical side. Something that combines CRM, POS and virtual inventory and doesn't cost $50k. Something that has an open architecture and customizeable reports.

Is that not the case everytime we go onto something new we have never done before?

True Chris, true. No problem with learning something new - just wish I had more hours in the day. *sigh*

We can’t change the fact that there are but 24 hours in the day. We do, however, have control over what we do with each of those hours. Check your priorities and if worse comes to worse, one hours less sleep at night will not kill you. That’s probably what the person who programmed that $50K application did.

Thanks rbaker for the advice. Single mom and picking up courses in accounting at night. Spent last year creating spreadsheets to "automate" financial reports for the optical department (was not paid for the overtime nor did I ask - I just did it to make my life easier). Everything prior was done on paper with redundancy. Doc would pay for the software but not the classes in Access (not saying that I couldn't pick up a book on my own) so my motivation to take my attention away from the job I am paid for is a little low I guess. I have some experience with databases - just not creating them from scratch.

Anyway, geez - I was only answering this guy's thread about what I would like to see in a software program.

Lightbulb learn access and other programs in a breeze

Hi there, If you want to learn access fast and in a fun way. When you have the time without reading boring static books then try the courses from VTC.com. I learned access from scratch in a week. I made a sale database for my business (optochemicals) and I made a frame database for my optical shop ( better then the expensive one suplied by the franchise organisation).
    Good luck, it's fun.
    Greetings from Holland, Jeroen
