Question Discount Glasses in NYC - Please Help

Do any of you know where I could get closeout glasses in New York City? I would only buy one or two pairs. I am especially interested in rimless glasses. Silhouette or one of the nice female Luxottica brands would be nice, but since I break my glasses regularly (I fall asleep in them, unfortunately), I do not want to pay a ton of money. Any advice that you all might have on this would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

    Broadway and 30th street!
They have knock offs of everything!
For $2-10 you got your self a frame that you can breake in a week!

you will not get genuine silhouettes at closedown prices, they also have to be glazed with decent lenses. Far better for you to look at Flexon or one of the other memory metal frames, they might cost you a bit more but in the long run it will be cheaper for you. Go and see a decent eye care professional, give him/her your budget tell them you want frames that dont break when you fall asleep in them.

Thanks to those of you who have given serious responses. My doctor has told me that it is true that many frames are sold for just $40 or $20 wholesale to people who sell glasses for living. While I am not expecting to pay such a cheap price for the frames -- I know that lenses are extra and of course am willing to pay for them I work out quite a bit and often am so tired from work when I get home that I literally just collapse on my bed. All of my glasses eventually wind up crooked-- I would rather avoid paying another $500 for glasses that will wind up breaking. I have even heard from a friend who had silhouettes that they broke on her -- and she was not sleeping on them.

In NYC, a lot of designers have "sample sales" where you can buy clothes at a steep discount. I once bought a Badgley Mischka evening gown that retailed for $3,000 for $50. I kid you not. So, I was curious to know if there were any similar sales for glasses.

Thanks again for those who have responded seriously and thanks in advance to anyone who has any other advice about this.

Thanks for your advice. I don't mind buying no-name silhouettes. I am more interested in the closeout prices.

like ikon said if you have a habit of falling asleep in your glasses then drill rimless is not the best choice, definitly go with a flexon or easy twist. I was also wondering exactly what you consider to be a "close out price" what would you consider a reasonable price range? Just out of curiosity.

Right now I pay about $600 for rimless. I consider a closeout price to be $100 to $600.

The good thing about 2 year old replies is that s*** happens in the interim.

I suggest checking out Silhouette's (new) *own* retail store in upstate NY. No doubt you can buy discontinued colors/styles of Silhouette rimless for...

    ...a song!

    FWIW

And just think - paying over $500 for a pair and still can't take care of them and treat them like what they cost.
I ask people sometimes - would you pay 500 bucks for a digital camera and abuse it the way you do your glasses?

Does anyone know where I can get a close out mercedes? I keep driving and the more I drive the faster my car breaks down and when I pay so much for them + insurance, I would rather not pay $30k+ and have them break down again.:hammer:

I also use a Mercedes analogy. A Mercedes costs way more than a Chevy. Smash 'em both into a post at 80 mph - very little difference.
So even though you have an expensive frame, it doesn't mean it's indestructable
