Varilux Comort in PGX don't darken up like his SV lenses. Help!

I'm new to the forum and just want to say up front what a great website. I've learned a ton just browsing through your various discussion forums. Thanks to all!
I have a patient who is not happy with his Comfort PGX lenses saying that they are not getting as dark as his old PGX single vision lenses. He has been wearing them for the past 12 months and brought this to my attention at his yearly check-up. Upon talking to my supplier they said its probably the difference in manufactures, but was unable to recommend another lens choice that might provide a darker saturation of color. Any suggestion?

    Thanks in advance!

That's normal. PGX in 1.6 does not perform like crown. Consider refit to Genesis crown with PGX. Should translate well.

Many PALs in glasss are available in 1.6 glass only. Try laying the PGX or in the event you use Thin & Dark (from other manufacturers glasses)in direct sunlight on both sides(front & back). Then, place them in a freezer. Do this several times and it should work. If this doesn't work I place them in the bead pan to get hot and then proceed with the method I described. I have had much success over the years.

    Lenny is right!

As I recall the 1,300 degree kiln temp effects the crystal of glass photochromics causing over time for them to remain in a darker state when indoors and get very dark outside.

Even if they've been chem treated (800? degrees in sodium and potassium nitrate??) they can be heat tempered. It may take a few years before they "match" what the patient is now used to! Meanwhile they will get darker than chem treated PGX.
