You go into their stores and they have nice frames, but most of the quality is junk. Plus, there are too many. There are probably three to four times as many frames per square foot than the average.
For AR they use Trio with either Comfort, AO Easy, or AO Active. Then they use the Nikon W as their main lens.
Interesting For-Life. They are apparently opening 8 stores here. Offereing people 30% raises over what they are making now and a 10,000 signing bonus.
Yeah I know. Like I said though, be careful, because the reason why that girl was laid off was due to the fact that they found someone cheaper.
Here there are no RO's, so that is not a problem, and they have been offering between $50,000 to $100,000 (that price has commission included with it).
How can there be no RO's? every province must have a registered optician on site...
Anyway, This is something I've heard, but have no proof of- pure gossip, even if it is 10 years old...

Now he is sole owner of a 70-store chain based in Toronto, and has no qualms about flaunting his wealth. Hakim, 67, immigrated to Canada in 1967, and started a wholesale manufacturing operation. "I could see I was in the wrong end of the business", he recalls, after learning the lenses he sold for $4 retailed for $60.
To compete in Imperial Optical's backyard, Hakim needed a different strategy than his main rival. He undercut Imperial, his big breakthrough coming with his "free frames" ad campaign. He would purchase last years' production excess frames in bulk, (some say he buys his frames by the pound) and had knockoffs made overseas. Hakim's sales of $38 million (1992) put him solidly in third place among Canada's retail opticals, behind only the King Group and LensCrafters."
By no RO's I meant a low amount of RO's (this is just in the region). Therefore there is a high demand for them, but low supply. Sorry for the confusion.
As for his frames he makes most of them.
The company uses sales promotions as its main technique of promotions. Wait until you get a flyer in the mail and see the up to seven offers you receive.
I was offered a job at Hakim and the guy interveiwing me said "Mr. Hakim can be verbally abusive at times. We need someone who isn't going to get offended by everything he says."
I said "have a nice day."
