Anyone know what they use? They don't seem to.
Anyone know what they use? They don't seem to.
Someone that works at my store used to work there. He said the AR they used was very poor quality and didn't hold up. When patients came back and complained they were told to tell them it didn't hold up because they weren't taking care of the coating correctly.
Hi happylady,
As you can see I am still on my quest. :)
They are having their half off sale right now.
I would go for it if it wasn't for the AR issue.
It's not a deal if the AR is low quality I guess.
Makes me wonder where else they are skimping.
Thanks for the heads up.
remember, half off at some places is sometimes higher than full price at other.Originally Posted by Dd

I'm trying to stay clear of the chains actually.
They're trying to suck me back in with these sales though.
Eyemasters seems like a good one if not for the AR and whatever else is below par there.
regular a/r orders are done in the a/r lab in san antonio with ecca's own a/r coating (not sure who's it really is were just told is is an exclusive ecca item) i am wearing a cr39 with transition and a/r and no problems at all in 18 mo. you can specify crizal alize and they can order it for same price as eccas. hope this helps.Originally Posted by Dd

Possible scenario:
ECCA Customer: What brand of coating do you provide?
ECCA Dispenser: I don't know.
Yeah... the standard line I've received from all of the chains was that they don't know, it's done at the lab.
The most I've gotten is that ours is baked on not dipped... which sounds tasty but tells me nothing. ;)

Chemlux ??
Ecca has Satis Vacuum Equipment but is using a process they purchased from another supplier along with their chemicals.
Should AR be reapplied to lenses?
Someone told me you should get new lenses with new coating, but I do know someone who recently had the coating come off new glasses after a couple months and they put new AR on those lenses.
Too soon to say if it's staying on this time.

Perfect solution......................so we should all sell for a better (high as possible) price and they will not need any more warranty and the lenses will stand up for years.Originally Posted by shellrob
I actually didn't mean it the way I think you're interpreting it. A lot of people automatically think that just because something is more expensive, it must be better which isn't necessarily the case, therefore taking better care of it. Same goes for people that pay cheap for something tend to not take aas good of care of it. Even though the same product, although different grades should be taken care of the same. I have had every kind of ar it seems and I've never had any problems with any of it, whether it be the "cheap" or the "expensive". I take care of them the same. Does that make better sense.
Thank you............makes perfect senseOriginally Posted by shellrob
If I read you right......you are saying that in principle all AR coated lenses do not create any major problems. This is also what I have been saying all the way long.
How then most posters on this subject continously name certain brands and declare everything else as "garbage"?
I know we can get enthusiastic about something we like, but we should also consider that there are many alternatives to every item or product. By being one track minded one becomes ultra conservative and is totally disinterested in new products or techniques if they do not come from one of the major corporations.
Actually, they may not know because the coating may change from day to day. I had a customer (NE Ohio) that purchased a pair from them that had to have one lens remade due to a dr. change, and the lenses kept coming back mismatched. They finally had to remake the pair, and they still came back different than the orginals. They finally refunded the, she bought them frmo us (not on sale), and saved $60.Originally Posted by Chris Ryser

It does not matter which make unit you work with.Originally Posted by James Herman
It make a difference how you work with it.
You can use the most sophisticated machine in any field, if you dont do it right the machine will not do a good job.

I believe that if you take care of any kind of ar the same, your results would be the same. I have both, treat them both the same, and have never had one react worse or better than the other. So, yes, I agree with you about ar.
I am glad that they've come out with the new ar's because it's easier to have the lenses remade with the newer warranties when a patient detroys the lenses.
What I am getting at is that..............they are all using basically the sametype vacuum coaters.................using thermocure polysiloxanes for the hard coat..............metal oxydes and SIO2 do apply the AR coating.Originally Posted by shellrob
The difference is how they stack the materials of the AR coating which may vary in the thickness and color of the hue.
The end result the AR coating which has a lifespan on the lenses that depends on the treatment and working conditions given by the end user.
The rest is all advertising hype and probably the one that spends the most money to brainwash retailers as well as end users, is the one that sells most of them.
I think I agree.
Hey - I just look at the warranty, not the brand of coating!
1 or 2 yrs?
1x replacement or unlimited?
strip and recoat or replace the lenses?
Most of the ar's we use are a 2 year 1 time replcement warranty.
