Casual attire is worn to association meetings whereas a suit coat and tie is required at society meetings.

Societies seem to exist on their own \with out political agendas and have certain selective qualifications/standards to join versus representing all. Some focus on elevating standards with in their own group and are not focused on themselves only. They generate income & support through platforms & causes. Many involve specific social functions and hold black tie gatherings. Reminds me of Fraternities & Sorieties with out all the hazing.

In regards to dress for societies....in our state many have black tie affairs.
