    History

    Hello professionals

    My homework is to find the design, brand name of the first and last progressives lenses and the year of their manufacture.
    (3 first lenses)
    (3 last lenses)

    I worked in the retail with Varilux lenses in 1957-1958 the first time

    The the 2nd I saw was when we started to surface HOYA progressives in 1967-68 for the Canadian Market

    The first progressive lens was designed by Oven Aves in 1907. I doubt he branded it though. Henry Gowlland patented improved progressive lens designs in 1909 and 1914. The first "modern" progressive lenses were Essel's original Varilux lens (around '59) and Univis's Omnifocal (around '61). The last progressive lenses will depend on the week you turn your assignment in. ;)
