I NEED REVIEWS OR PERSONAL CHOICES OF PAL'S USED.
I'VE BEEN OUT OF THE OPTICAL MARKET FOR 6 YRS.
I DON'T WANT ANY COMMENTS ABOUT
"PAL'S ARE AS GOOD AS THE FITTER"
I ALREADY KNOW THAT, I HAVE 19 YRS OF OPTICAL EXPERIENCE

I try to stick with whatever the patient has, if they like them. When choosing a new one, I tend to like Hoya ECP, Varilux Comfort, and Sola 1 in that order. Have also used Gradal Top (a little quirky IMO), AO Compact (for narrow frames).
My favourite lens to fit is the Varilux Ipseo. The lens is designed based on the individuals head and eye movements and tends to give unbelievable reviews.
After that I generally use the Ovation
choice of progressives is not a matter of dropping favorite brands or names - it is a matter of matching the needs of the patient, to the characteristics of a lens design. So I am sorry, there is no specific answer to the question. To suggest that design X is the best only begs the question: what is the definition of "best", and does that definition match the specific needs of a specific patient
True. Best might be the Multigressive (or whatever that lens is you have to order from Rodenstock Germany). But who want's to pay for it and wait forever to get them? There are practical considerations. Make sure you have a Progressive lens identifier booklet so at least you'll know what they've been wearing! (again, I like to stick with what works, aka if it ain't broken, don't fix it).Originally Posted by QDO1

as i stated in my request.
i don't want any lecturing, trust me i already know all that.
the quality of progressive lenses varies from one brand to the other.
some lenses have more distortion on the distance but a wider reading.
all i want is comparison based on reviews and pesonal experience.
plese keep the smart remarks and lecturing to yourselves.
tks,
gil
william,
can you tell me more about the multigressive lens.
design, technoly used, have you used it much?
how about patients' feed back.

Based on the way the question is posted, I would go with an Ovation as a solid start.
Not much. Ordered them once last year and it took about a month. I think it's one of the new "free form" types, but whatever it was, the patient liked it. I did it as a VSP job so can't ever remember what they charged for them, but I think its on the high end.Originally Posted by medicalretina
For first time PAL, then Ovation
If customer don't want to pay a little extra then Sola VIP
If they are happy with what they are wearing with no complaints, stick to what ever brand they are wearing. If you can't determine what brand they are wearing just stick with Ovation.
I usually fit Essilor product due here in Canada I can only get Alize on Essilor products
#1 Ovation
Ellpise short corridor
Ipseo high end also Panamic
Super No-Line, Adapter low end
These are the one I use on a regular basis
I like Ovation-reg and short-corridor, my husband likes Varilux comfort. It has been my experince that if a customer has ever had a Varilux of any kind in the past they just aren't happy with anything else. Of course I've talked to a few and I mean just a couple of people that don't like Varilux and love Zeiss. There you have it everyone is different.

This is my protocol. It takes into account other variables such as material availability and cost.

The Definity is the best progressive lens I have ever looked through.
It has the smallest area of distortion to the periphery of any lens I've encountered.
I like the Sola One, Varilux Panamic, Ellipse. If the patient is happy with what they have I usually try to keep them in the same thing.
I am excited about the new Varilux Physio. I sold two this past week. I am planning to get a pair for myself. I got some free Hoya CDs and I don't care for them, the distance area is very small, though the reading is good.
now we're cooking my people.
tks, for your continuing replies.

I have always liked the V-lux comfort,
For short corridor I have a lot of luck with the Kodack Concise. It fits at about 16mm.
I've worn about 15 different Pal's and was recently shocked by how good the vision is in a Definity Short.
P.S and Optician who automatically put a patient back in what they were wearing is lazy and not interested in improving a patients vision.:finger:

I don't always keep them in the same lens. I judge each situation and decide. Some people are very happy with their lenses. Some people are flexible and some aren't.Originally Posted by johntricity
I like the Image. It is available in a wide range of materials and indexes of refraction. It seems to work well for alot of people.
Hi Gil - of course you know that every patient & situation is different, I will not get into that as you suggested... :D

I have a few others but I won't bore you with it
Definately Definity :)
Don't fix what ain't broke however!
I have the feeling this thread is a manufacturer sposored survey.................who is using what most.
I'm not a PAL wearer ...yet and therefore am speaking from works best for us as per patient satisfaction and non adapt returns.
Before recommending a specific lens design, I attempt to understand how the lens will be used in the wearers lifestyle. This enables me to have information needed to make a recommendation for the appropriate alternative. It has also enabled me to have the opportunity to sell many task progressive lenses.
Out of the handful of premium PALS used are:
Zeiss Gradal Top, Zeiss Brevity, Definity, Shamir Genesis, Shamir Piccolo.
Value PAL:
Younger Image
Task Progressives:
Zeiss RD, Zeiss Business, Shamir Office
This whole thread smells like Rose Bowl Parade of PALs
:bbg: :D :bbg: :D
