Good books

Check out The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. It is her intensely personal memoir of her husband's death and her daughter's terminal illness. It is heartbreaking but really uplifting at the same time. If you're not familiar with Didion, she is a really fabulous writer.

Also The Underdog! Which is going to be made into a movie. It's a true story about a very stange guy

I don't know if you've heard any of the interviews or readings she's done supporting that book, they're powerful. It's on my list but, somehow, less depressing books keep passing it.

She was never a light hearted sort; I can only imagine how somber she must be now. But do get around to reading it, very moving.
