Carl Zeiss Vision Acquires Specto Optical

San Diego – Carl Zeiss Vision (CZV) has acquired Specto Optical Company, Inc. of Montclair, CA.

Announcing the move, Dr. Barry Packham, CZV’s President, The Americas, said “this acquisition represents an important step for Carl Zeiss. Specto Optical has an excellent reputation and significant growth potential. This provides us with a strong point of distribution for our ZEISS, SOLA, AO and Teflon® Clear Coat Lenses brands in a key U.S. market.”

Specto was founded in 1966 by Ed and Meldra Morris, who ran it until their retirement in 1987. They were succeeded by their son, Bryan Morris, who presided over significant expansion of the lab and the move to a new facility in 2002.

Bryan Morris, who remains as President of Specto, said that “we are pleased to be able to offer our customers expanded access to the products and services from Carl Zeiss Vision including their ZEISS, SOLA, American Optical and Teflon® Clear Coat Lenses brands.” He noted that the current Specto staff and management team will remain in place.
