    Wave Software

I am taking over an established optical shop with finishing lab, no doctor. I'd like some feedback on the best software to use for inventory and bookkeeping. I am familar with Quickbooks Pro and will probally go with this unless there is something better. Presently no computers are in use.

    Thanks,
    Trish

Our accountant says to check out Peachtree, usually available at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

I have set up businesses with all of the major accounting applications and they all can do the job for you. I do like Peachtree Complete Accounting although I am currently evaluating Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2006 which is an integral component of Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006. It does a remarkably good job of integration the accounting component with Microsoft Office. It also features a much improved Microsoft Outlook.

You can download trial versions of just about any accounting application. But the key factor here is your familiarity with QB Pro. Since the most expensive phase of implementing an accounting solution is training you may just want to stick with what you feel most comfortable with. Also, be sure to involve your accountant/bookkeeper in your decision.

Definately make sure the accounting dept is involved with the decision.
