It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

Had a -16.00 -17.00
Not a -17.00 cyl!!!! Is that even possible? :DOriginally Posted by Jacqui
It's possible. However, don't try this at home, leave it to the professionals in thier white coats.
I'm just a lowly Apprentice Optician. *bowing low to the professionals in the white coats*
We had a -28 or there about. It was for a contact lens patient that wanted an emergency pair of glasses. She was unable to wear them. Her contacts were in the low -30's and she saw 20/40 corrected with them.
I had a man walk into my shop many years ago with a pair of myodisk glasses that were in very bad condition. He did not get them from us. He wanted them adjusted but I barely did anything to them, I was so scared they would break. I did look at the prescription and even at the highest setting(-20) it was still not in focus. I estimate it was a -22 or -23.

I remember attending a seminar by Norvilles several years ago. One of the questions asked at the time was "What is the highest minus lens you have dispensed". Personally I have dispensed a -33.00 as a bonded lenticular. In the audience the highest quoted was -42.00............. Norvilles topped it by a large margin, they had had an order for -96.00, YES you read it correctly, -96.00. To make the lenses thay had to cement 2 lenses back to back and each had an aperture of approx 12mm. A year later they had another order for the same client for -104.00, they physically couldn't make it.
Consensus of opinion was a guide dog or white stick would have been a better bet.
