You can be born with them, you can have an injury that can cause them, you can live too long and they will form, some may be caused by drugs, medication, or chemical exposure.

Don't forget that if you have not protected your eyes against UV radiation many years prior to getting old.................getting cataracts is a very strong possibility. Today an optician can easily treat your lenses to absorb all the UV and give you full protection.Originally Posted by redsoxfanfewany

It is no longer good enough to filter UV only. Serious data is coming in regarding HEV-High Energy Visible light in the 400-470 (aqua) nanometer range. Non protection in this range attributes to cortical cataracts appearing in the inferior nasal quadrant are attributed to these wave lengths as well as ARMD.
Of course there are those that beleive the human organism was designed to last only 40 years or so and most of our problems are a result of trying to make the body last too long. If this is true none of our filtration devises mean much. Probably the best way to prevent cataracts, hardening of the arteries, lombego, Alzeimers, and most of our other troubles is to committ hari~kari at 39.

LOL some of your comments are funny. I dont know about the human body only meant to live around 40 years, I sure as heck wanna live much longer. If I get cateracts, arthrists, whatever, then be it. Theres treatments for those ailments
Would like to a post from you you when you get it and the treatments dont work.Originally Posted by Myoptic33
They dont always work but thats the price of living a long time, your body begins to develop ailments. Better than dying at 40
