    Women Make Better Opticians?

I would select lady optician for my dispensary than man coz I find women are better at fashion, fine details, accuracy and punctuality, have desire to attract and win customers, they are better communicator, better problem solver, accessible, make effective managers and more.

    Do you all agree?

Agreed with some reservations. Depends a lot on the person you hire man or women. I have five women working for me in my office and they work great most of the time. They tend to get lazy, and can get very competitive.

    Experience is the key factor.

    Disagree

I have found a lot of women who are the complete opposite of that and many males that are much stronger in that field. From the woman I have worked with and worked for I have found:

    - A lot of lateness
    - A lot of bullying for power
    - Could be pushed over easily
    - Could be very stubborn
    - Want everyone to make them look good
    - Good fashion design
    - Good attention to detail

From the men I have worked with I have found
    - Great fashion design (even the straight ones)
    - Good attention to detail
    - Some very good organization and some very bad organization
    - More on the empowerment side
    - More helpful
    - Poor punctuality

I think it is a clear stereotype that one is better than the other. However, I do see the need for a female and male associate due to customer preference.

Are we starting a battle of the sexes?

Could be one of those beauty (or competence) is in the eye of the beholder things. Could also matter if the boss is a man that likes women around. Or a woman that thinks she belongs to the superior sex. Or a man that thinks women are air-heads.

One might thing that talk about football games is more intelligent than talk about food or vise~versa.

One might prefer opticians that will jump right in and fix an instrument or change a light bulb, or take out the trash as opposed to one that gets a man to do it (because it's not in my job description).

I have noticed that when multiple women are in a job situation they are constantly vying for power and tattling one each other. Men tend to solve their own dominance situations even it takes going out back and slugging it out, such things are settled among themselves without consulting the higher ups. And I have never seen a man take the afternoon off to have a broken fingernail repaired, a finger maybe but a nail, no.

    Chip

I should have specified an overhead tube light and carrying the big trashcan out to the compacter/dumpster.

I know that many of you might think what I am going to say next is unbelievable but here goes.

When I interview a new person for a job I ask their birthdate. Then I look up in horiscope on the internet and see what type of person they are and will fit into the type of person I want for the posiition I want filled.

Laugh all you want but it works.

35 year old guy. Asking for birth date could be asking for trouble. There is such a thing as age discrimination, which could be cause for a law suit.

Well one can use just the month and day for astrology, not the year (unless it's chinese astrology). So where's the age discrimination?

Stupid men. :bbg: ... Thus indeed women make better opticians.

And by the way, President Hillary will prove to be better than our current incompetent idiot.

So what do you do when you think you hired a Woman and it's really a man.

35- :finger: you should know all about each sign before you hire so you don't have to look them up on the internet!!! Also, know which signs work well with each other in a working enviroment. Jeez, come on...
P.S. Virgos make great Opticians! LOL

i allways hire the best person for the job. as for star signs... do you realise they had the length of the year wrong when they first come up with astrology. that means we are 6 weeks out from the charts by now!

hmmm.... sounds like you are talking about the same thing...maybe degree? So when does "poor" become "a lot"?

Also, we used to hear that "moms" are not dependable because they are usually the primary caregiver... and when the child is sick, mom calls in....
But in our store, the ones (male and female) who are typically calling in sick asking for the day off, or are constantly late, don't have kids! Ok, I will call in too....thinking I am going to be sooo late with a traffic jam or construction slow down.... and then I get there on time or within 5 minutes of "on time" and they tease me about my dorky quess-timate sense.

    What she said!!!
Yes, Virgos are very obsessive about details, and female Virgos try to "mother" the world, so we will naturally try to get someone in the best functioning glasses and save the business money and recycle all the extra pieces while we do it...our "fashion sense" may not always be hippest, but we will definitely make sure the temples are the right length and the bridge is straight, and the lens edges are smooth and ....you get the idea, I'm sure. ;)
So, I agree, Virgos make great Opticians..... so tell me, which sign makes the best sales people??? Which sign makes the best manager or owner?? :bbg:

I have to agree, the best Optician is the best Optician, whether boy or girl. In my days with essilor visiting various practices around UK I came across both good and bad, with neither gender showing more predominance. Like most positions it all comes down to social skills. I recently needed some help in the practice whilst my wife was getting over a major operation. The first friend was a female of about 40 yrs and her people skills were awesome, she was a real benefit to the practice. The 2nd helper was a young girl of 16yrs, who whilst not stupid had NO interactive skills whatsoever. Talk about cold, it made liquid nitrogen look like boiling water! No please, thank you etc! I even said to her that customers are like guests and should be treated as such - I was wasting my breath. Thank goodness she's gone back to school!

There will never be a true answer to this debate.
