Don't know about Rita but I sat out Carla in Houston. Man did those folks know how to party. Very little Hurricane damage but the streets did flood. We threw papers from a canoe. Waded from block to block to change parties. The media (only panicked) those idiots would tell which 7-11 had milk, which store had bread, you would have thought we had been under siege by the mongols for many years.
Got fired on Friday before the Hurricane and couldn't find a new job until Tuesday (longest I have ever been out of work).
It was category 5 but Houston is 50 miles from the coast, little damage other than the streets flooding (which they do several times a week anyway) and a couple of drive in movie screens falling.
Don't remember a soul fussing about the govment, not protecting or taking care of them.
The red fish were running and a few fools were out on the piers straddling the pilings as the planks were breaking off behind them from the waves in Galveston, but the Red Fish were running. The next year the same bunch of fools (those that survived) were out wading in Galveston Bay to catch lethargic fish who were stunned by a temperature of 4 degrees (coldest ever recorded there.
Ah, the memories of youth.
Chip:cheers:
