It measures pressure. Try google. I would link you to sites but these windows do not like copy and paste.
Lenny,
Most glaucoma screens I am familiar with in a health screening environement is with pressure testing and risk factors such as: family history; cardiovscular disease: i.e. hypertension; high degrees of myopia; ethnic background-such as Nothern European, Afro-American; Asian; brown eyes-psuedo exfoliataion.
Billing code may be POAG suspect if I remember correctly. We do these screenings free at health fairs. Internally you can bill for your diagnosis's.
Hope this helps.
Whew, I agree, I can't say how excited I am to finally be out of the optical business after 35 years. I think the state of the industry has us all turned against each other to the point we can never again be a collective group who share camaraderie and willingness to help each other. I'm sorry to say my optiboard experiences over the past couple years has only served to encourage me to try harder to sell my office & pursue other ventures.:hammer:Originally Posted by finklstiltskin

The problem comes up when some opticians feel the need to show how smart they are,and assumes every one else is some how not up to their level. This is the reason I stoped going to any conventions. Every one seems to stand around thumping their chest. This is also the main reason why opticians can't, on a national level, get a damn thing done.:finger: That being said, Optiboard IS a great resorce and at times as entertaining as Jerry Springer!:pOriginally Posted by finklstiltskin

There's never a dull moment here on Optiboard.
True, but Ikon was jumped on for providing a more accurate answer. Optidonn did the right thing, by clarifying his initial response with a follow-up post, while another member responds with smart *** remarks, which is not productive at all.Originally Posted by ziggy
Tonometer is always synonymic with glaucoma.Other than glaucoma or retinal detachment evaluation where else is tomometr used?
I agree with Jedi some opticians wants to show how smart they are.
I cannott beieve a simple correction has generated so much discussion.Originally Posted by ziggy

Optidonn:If i have caused you any embarrasment or if you felt i was putting you down in any way i apologise and assure you that this was not my intention,i carry out tonometry every day and i am very careful to explain to patients exactly what is being done to them and why,and i just thought your point needed clarification.
Ziggy, if that above remark is directed at me then you are out of order ,if you look at my post history i dont think you will find anything to justify your assertion.
I think that most people (that are brave enough) to post on this site do so out of a desire to share their knowledge and experience with both the public and fellow professionals, not in a look at me are,nt i clever manner that you have suggested.
I think you owe your fellow optiboarders an apology.

ikno44, I was speaking in general terms, not directley at you. No offense was ment, I'm sorry if any was taken. As a whole, our lovely optical family is a pompas lot and quite quick to let one-another know when they have made the smallest of missteps. " Dont get your nickers in a bunch" would be fine words for all of us to live by.

No IKON I did not feel embarassed or put down by you in any way. You made a point and I clarified my answer and that should have been that. There is nothing wrong with the way you corrected my answer. I am a lab guy and all I know about tonometers is from what I have read and by the Dr and I messing around with ours. I think that every one of us nees to take a nap!;)
Really? I think in I have only heard it in the USA as "don't get your knickers in a bunch" I think its different by you. Besides what are knickers? are they pants or what and does anybody wear them any more? I think I would like a pair:bbg:Originally Posted by ikon44

Nobody questioned what tonometer has to do with retinal detachment evaluation?
This thread is a sign that good material is lacking from Optiboard. We need writings that stimulate our brains.
