Hype but if you are an O.D. or OMD with a pro-something or other team you "consult" for, you could probably make a few bucks with it. One might even suck up with some of the local coaches and make a going thing out them.

Otherwise it will be one of those gimmicks that you never even manage to re-coup the cost of the trial set on.

Paid about $250 for the fitting set, but people have been asking about it. I've had it for 1 week and 5 people are trying them.

Obviously, it's no different than sunglass tint claims of "clearer vision" (see Bolle's "Competivision" e.g., or BlueBlockers' claims.) Hype.

Nonetheless, I don't underestimate the marketing genious of Nike (B&L-not so much:p ). Women's national soccer team has been wearing these, already. Ohio State's football team is wearing these, already. The marketing has just begun.

Having said that, I see a real niche developing with Nike via B&L and Marchon: namely "sports vision". And they will do it right, I'm betting.

Well, at least compliance would be better for these lenses because there is no way they would wear them 18 hours per day. In 2000, I happened to be a subject in a thesis project that studies these lenses, and they definitelty decrease your contrast sensitivity indoors. They also tested our visual field with Rx sunwear vs. tinted CL and guess which was better.
I'm sure they'll market that as improved performance over sun specs.

I wore a pair this weekend to play soccer. Comfort was suprisingly good. I can't say that it " improved" my vision but it was a bright sunny day and my eyes were alot more comfortable. It felt like I was playing with sunglasses on. They also look alittle freaky. Good for the intimidation factor.

Kind of reminds me of the days before the FDA blessed the CL industry with it's guidance. We used to go buy black plexiglass Sheets, turn them into buttons then into Contacts. Worked great as a spair pair sunglass, but made one look like the eyes were dilated and were actually a bit too dark for inside.

I dont have any direct experience with the nike product, but it does sound promising.
The part about the specific sport and activity the colors apply to sounded like pure hype
    to me.

The amber lens is a lot like the Okley lens and the gray/green is like a polar-gray. The only thing is if your playing a fast ball sport you should use the amber.
