Does anyone know whether it is possible to accept assignment on Medicare Part B eye examinations but not accept assignment on DMERC glasses after cataract surgery? Any replies would be much appreciated. I'm new at this.

I think it's been changed but used to be against the rules for the operating physician to make and bill for the glasses.

I think that is still the case.

We accept exams but not materials. Also, the patient cannot submit for glasses purchased from you - they must go to someone who provides materials under Medicare.

DMERC is a seperate enrollment. Just don't apply for it and you should be fine with that. But if you are doing post operative cataract care , your patients will be looking to you for their glasses and will be disappointed if they have to go somewhere else.
