    Age Old Debate

Grey or Brown or Green Grey

Which tint do you like better?

I am a huge fan of brown lenses. That is what I push, that is what I prefer. Plus, I can now get physio brown lenses with a backside AR in uncuts for a price only a couple more dollars more than regular uncuts.

Seems like the market prefers grey. I am not a fan of grey. I find it dulls everything down. Green Grey is there too, but meh...

I'm torn between a few colours, but they are all a variation on brown.
Specifically, Oakley's VR-28, Maui Rose, Serengeti Drivers. Grey tends to be the default tint, but once clients realize that it's usually the glare not the direct sunlight that is causing discomfort they tend to settle into a brown/rose polarized lens nicely.

I guess it is brown fo us.

However, even in the summer, when golfing, fishing, or just hanging out at camp I find a brown lens remarkably better.

Doesn't it also somewhat depend on the color of the frame??
I'd pick grey tint if the frame were black, but brown tint with brownish frames.
    Voting for brown overall.

    BTW my provider pushes Velocity

    Velocity is the transitions

It does depend on the frame, however, I think it is more important with comfort. I wold rather wear a brown lens in a black frame than a grey, because I hate grey.

It's a pretty safe approach in the client is indifferent about colour. Even then brown still looks good in a black frame.

I voted for other because I wear both brown and gray and like both of them. I find some people are fairly indifferent to the color and other people REALLY have a preference. If people aren't sure which they want I show them both colors and have them look through them.

I like just about everything except Grey. I just can't stand it. I have bluish eyes by the way.

If I am correct Velocity is Sola's Transition lens and Essilor (and other companies) get Transitions NG.

    Grey is for the crows

If you choose the frame for color..............choose the lens color first and then get the frame to match the lenses.

Brown has a better contrast and UV absorbtion because it contains more yellow.

If you do get brown see that you can get a brown that is not reddish one like most of them are.

I have several pairs of sunglasses... so my decision on what to wear (lens color) has to do with what the weather is like outside that day...

Brown all the way! It seems like the majority of people I have dealt with seem to think Grey is the be all end all :(

Snitgirl: Yellow is for days without Sun, not for a Sunglass. Idea is to give contrast on blue/gray days and dawn and dusk. Wear them on the beach and you will have cause to see the error.

Here in the lab we're seeing an increase in brown, was about 10% now about 20%. We're also seeing a drastic increase in other colours especially dark blue (still don't understand this).

This is kind of off topic, but I've always wanted to make a pair of RX 3d glasses, I've just had a hard time finding the right white frame.:D

I think the answer to this question is very subjective as many folks see colors differently contingent on the clinical integrity of their rods and cones.

Ideally people would have multiple pairs of sunwear since each is a tool for the prevailing light conditions; brown for early AM and early PM during low light to improve contrast sensitivity and depth perception. Grey for middle of the day as the sun is directly overhead. Although a person can have a bag loaded with golf clubs for every imaginable shot most only want one pair of sunwear to wear all day long.

Color density (light transmission) is another way of managing the ambient light without causing too much color abberation which is often recognized in the higher density color options.

P.S. Not being from a hurricane state, how much sun is in hurricane weather? On your hurricane post I assumed you were being facetious but I gave it my best guess anyway... shows what happens when you assume......
