As a first time on the other side......the exhibitors.....you should have said....... if you get bored spend more time at the exhibition and go and see every company that you have not purchased from, because they just might have something you need.

No Jaqui, after some 15 years of Optifairs and Vision Expo's.........seeing the downwards trend in visitors.............plus the rising cost to exhibit including the snoddy treatment by on site exhibition officials made me quit that curcuit + circus.

I believe that these exhibitions are becoming extinct dinososaur's belonging into the 70s,80s and started to decline in the late 90s. It is the same for the large European shows. There too many everywhere around the world, so that they have been degraded to local shows with the majority of visitors coming from a diameter of 350 miles (as per statistics).

A small double booth 10/20' cost's some $ 5000.00 unfurnished, they charge $ 45.00 rental for a $ 6.00 plastic chair + $ 120.00 per table, $150.00 for the carpet, $ 100.00 for a 110V electrical outlet, $ 15.00 a day to pass the vacuum cleaner for 20 seconds, $ 250.00 to bring the merchandise boxes from the reception to the booth. And on and on. We used to call this our $ 10,000.00 weekend.

Then you sit or stand there..........praying that somebody stops at your booth.

Today I get up to 600 visitors per day on my website. If a small fraction of them is interested in my services or products, I get 4 times more contacts in one day compared to what I could get at Vision Expo for a full weekend at the aboven mentioned cost plus the time invested to go there and back.

And do not forget..........being an exhibitor is a very tiring affair.........after standing there for hours you are tired.........have bite to eat and go to bed.

Well Chris this is different, now your knocking the show before it begins, and darn it, a number of us were going to place a bet on how long it would take you to downgrade the show after it was over, so since your ahead of yourself, why dont you tell us in advance how many people were not there. It will save us from having to listen to it later.

do some buying and alot of looking. Sometimes we take a class or two if they look interesting. I guess the priority for us is being able to see old friends who for one reason or another don't live as close as they used to anymore!
