    Polycarbonate dip coating

Is there someone who would like to swop info on dip coating of Poly lenses?
We carry an extensive range of Poly lenses in various designs and manufacturers and it is my task to hardcoat and Ar coat these. We are having some success, but are still fighting with smaller issues. I would also welcome some advice on AR coating of Poly and High-index materials.

    Look forward to any replies.
    Thanks.

    Polycarboante Hardcoat

I am also looking to find a polycarbonate hardcoat dip, but in the UK I am struggling to find a supplier. Can anyone advise if they have tried hardcoating with success their own polycarbonate lenses and what product they used.

    LensArmor Scratch Resistant Coating

    Kevin

LensArmor works for polycarbonate as well as all other types of plastic lenses. We currently have begun providing it to a lens manufacturer that will be using it on millions of polycarbonate lenses each month. A sample should be available at the beginning of August.

When the product goes on the market it will be offered in the following unit sizes

    1. 32 fl oz (946 ml) case of 12 bottles (minimum)
    2. 30 gallon (113.53 L) drum
    3. 55 gallon (208.14 L) drum
    4. 250 gallon (946.07 L) tote
One gallon should coat about 1100 pair of polycarbonate lenes. Currently we do not have a distributor in the UK for this product. If these unit sizes are to large, advise us of the name of a distributor near you in the UK and we will approact them to carry the product or we can give you a name of a US distributor that sells in the UK.

I've heard good things about SCL International as well. Plus they make the machine and the coating.

Uncoated Polycarbonate lenses can only be coated with a real hard coat material.

These products used presently, are Polysiloxane for thermocure and UV cure materials which are either processed in a dipcoating system or in the case of UV cure on spin coating system made for optical labs.
These materials provide the necessary hardness needed for the ultra soft material of Polycarbonate. See properties at :
    http://optochemicals.com/polycarbonate_properties.htm

Polysiloxane coatings are very compatible with AR coatings while UV cure coatings are much less compatible with the AR coating process.

The thermocure coatings have to be shipped on dry ice, kept in a fridge and are very sensitive to heat, humidity and should be used only under very controlled conditions. UV coatings usually have no shelf life and do not need to meet any of above conditions.
