Sorry, need to vent! Some things are just not right!

Had a patient with government funded insurance, you know, Medi-Cal. Got glasses for "free" using their Medi-Cal insurance. Then, decided to purchase a couple pair on her own. Spent $1,500.00 and paid cash, then drove off in their Porsche SUV, Gucci Purse & Designer Clothing along with beautiful manicured nails. I am not exaggerating!! When they picked up their "free" government funded glasses, they purchased another "high-end" product (sunglass) for $300.00 (cash).

LOL…. Should I be reporting this to the US Government??

How is it possible for this person to be on our government funded insurance and make purchases like this, let alone drive a Porsche SUV? It boggles my mind!!!

I have a dear friend who has an existing medical condition and due to this condition has a hard time working full-time because the toll it has on her body. She can't even get government assistance (Medi-Cal) to help her with the doctors she needs to see. Also assistance for the costs of the shots she has to inject into herself everyday. The US Government says that working part-time and making money to survive is too much to be on Medi-Cal insurance. My dear friend is not the type of person who would solely rely on the government; she’s willing to work. To top it off, Non-government insurances want to charge her a huge sum each month for insurance coverage due to her existing medical condition. This takes most of her part-time pay!!!

Is this fair to her (my friend), someone who is truly in need of insurance badly vs. this person that spends $1,800.00 and drives a Porsche SUV?

Sorry, I just needed to vent. Some things in life are just not RIGHT!

I've had something very similar happen here before and it boggles your mind how this can happen. I don't get it either. It's sad because like you said, there's a lot of people oout there who NEED the help(don't really want it), but have no choice and they are the ones that can't get it.

Sounds like she is doing drugs to me.

Does not mean she is cheating the system, just cheating the rest of the laws.

    Hope you got cash.

You might try calling the Medi-Cal Fraud Hotline at 800-722-0432.

If you re-read the post you've quoted.....

If you re-read the post you've quoted I think you may find that she was complaining about the appearence of a fraudulent welfare recipient, not the fact that there was a cash sale.

The thought occured to me that the lady in question might have a cash business and not want to show the income.I can only imagine what that might be! :D The Porsche is probably for fast get aways! It might not have been her car either. In any event it appears unfair....but I checked my contract just this morning, and didn't see the word fair once!

Many are on public assistance because they have messed up priorities.

Once I was lost in a nasty neighborhood and went to the local mall looing for a bookstore to find a map. No bookstore in this scary area, but tons of jewelry and optical stores.

Health insurance is tough for the self employed, my family plan HMO (20 copay, $150 ER, $250 hospitalization) costs me $1100 per month.

It's a messed up system where the jump from medicaid to insured is a huge canyon.

I don't think it's terribly uncommon, regardless of the cost of healthcare. I once was told a story of a friend of a friend who was extremely wealthy (her family founded a private university). Since she was too lazy to look into health plan she would pay for, she signed herself and her kids up for Medicaid. She qualified because she shows no income, although she's got access to a fortune. Legal? Yeah, by the letter of the law. Ethical? Of course not.
