    credit card machine won't scan

Anyone know how you clean a credit card terminal card reader?

Mine is an older Tranz 330 and doesn't scan about 70% of the time, I'm paying a higher rate on manually keyed in transactions.

Alcohol like a cassette player? Any recommendations appreciated.

I don't know if the US is like Canada, but all manually keyed in CC's have to be imprinted onto carbon paper, otherwise transactions can be charged back and leave you on the hook if they are fradulent. So get rid of it.

A cleaning kit should have come with it. It is a card and such.

Call your CC processing company. They should be able to send you something.

Dont buy a terminal from your CC company!
You going to pay 3 times more!
BTW you need a new terminal anyway!
I bet you that you print the whole credit card # on your reciept! If so you have to update your terminal!
Ebay worked the best for me.
Call you CC company see what price they give you and what unit they recomend for your type of valume.
Devide it by third and go to ebay. Pick up a pin pad too. It will save you on % fees and no bounced checks with ATM card. Also no chargebacks! PIN garanties the payment!

    Good luck

Recently, I had this happen to me in a grocery store. The cashier placed a plastic type sandwich bag over the card. Voila! It processed. She also told me to try to wipe the card with an alcohol pad in the future. Sometimes that works. She said oils and things get on the card from touching. Just clean them but do not lay them ner any magnetized surface.

The platic bag trick works well. Place part of the plastic bag over the magnetic stripe on the card and swipe with that.

Incidentally, I have heard that if you use a pin pad for debit cards you don't have to pay percentage fees (just the 20cent transaction fee). I just looked at my bills recently and realized I could have been saving up to $100 monthly.

Transparent tape over the magnetic strip works much better than the plastic bag. Trust me, my debit card sucks.
