    Air Heat Treating Units

I have a question about air heat treating units. When do you suggest not to use them on Minus Lenses? At what minus power?
    Thanks!!

It also depends on the lens size. I quit heat treating some time ago and now chem harden all glass lenses.

I have an inordinately large percentage of glass (PGX, etc) here in Eastern CT. There are some folks who have worn PGX, and when we process them at a Chem treat only facility, there are a few that complain of pgx performance (not as dark, not as fast).

Also, although chem treated lenses are technically safer, there are many patients who have been wearing heat treated PGX lenses for years. Most of them are over 65 now anyway, so not many of them that will be in a high risk category in terms of possible impact/safety issues. Why change what works for them?

I'vve never had trouble with PGX or PBX, although most of it here is white or pink1.

You can also check with BPI, they also make them.

I have two edgers, and neither is capable of edging glass, so treating in house is out of the question. 5 of the 6 labs I have accts with WILL NOT HEAT TREAT!!

We still heat treat. . .

We have a blue collar working class practice. The main OD is 65 and so are alot of his patients. We still process all crown glass in house and heat treat all of it simply because I'm too cheap to spring for chem units. We don't do enough high index, progressives or execs to warrant the expenditure. I've got 2 of the old blue Kirk units and a couple of compressors which I expect to outlast me so I think we'll be fine.

I hope you're all having fun and making money!
