My vision is 20/400 what are my options to drive?

My vision is 20/400 what are my options to drive? I looked at the different states and see that Missouri will give you a restricted license if your 20/160. I live in Florida and it just says 20/70 in either eye. I cant even see the big 20/200 E with either or both eyes. I have about -4.5 diopters of myopia :hammer:with very slight irregular astigmistim. I can see well enough to easily see other cars and traffic lights. Street signs can be viewed from about 40 feet in broad daylight from my observation as a passenger of course. I dont really have much interest in driving but would still like to know my options.

If your vision is 20/400 without correction but correctable to 20/40 or so with correction you are fine. If 20/400 is the best you see with correction, let someone else do the driving.

Get it corrected or do not drive

If you kill a child that will hurt you way more than not being able to drive.

I have an rx similar to yours and I cannot see people coming at me, so be responsible.

I think this poster has a pathological reduction in vision?

If so, some states (I don't know which) allow bioptic telescopes for driving, where you have spectacle-mounted telescopes in the upper portion of the lens, and you alternate quickly between looking through the telescope for details (like signs, exits, etc.) and your normal correction to gauge your following distance, peripheral vision, etc.

Truth be known, I don't know which states allow this, but there are few. If you have a reduction in vision, there are better ways, IMO, to get transportation.

No one on this board will know low vision details, myself included. Do another web search.

If you, on the other hand, are correctable with lenses to near-normal vision, and are talking about driving around uncorrected, it is A) illegal and B) unethical.

    Troll Alert

    Drk,

This is from Myoptic33's post from the previous natural correction thread...

As for me, my best corrected is 20/30 but I was able to make out some of the 20/25 letters. You could say partial 20/25 I guess but I saw all of the 20/30. I guess seeing I am just over -5 in left and -4.75 in right this explains it. Your vision isnt as bad as mine. I am 20/400 uncorrected so I need all the help I can get with natural improvement. I wear glasses that are supposed to
