Help me out with this logic, please

"This bill would take us across a critical ethical line by creating new incentives for the ongoing destruction of emerging human life," Bush said. "Crossing this line would be a great mistake."

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...052400938.html

Let me get this straight. It's bad to use a mass of cells to help people with horrible diseases, but it's good to send our young men and women to their deaths in Iraq, leaving orphans and widows, and it's ok to kill Iraqis.

Seems like W values "emerging human life" (whatever that means) over "emerged human life".:hammer:
    ...Just ask me...

I think there should be fewer restrictions on stem cell research than we have now.

Not too long ago, the National Academy of Sciences published some proposed ethical guideliness for stem cell research that make more sense than the current restrictions. A key paragraph from that publication:

"Human embryos should not be grown for longer than 14 days and cloning that is intended to produce another human, also known as reproductive cloning, should not be allowed ..."

    http://www.terradaily.com/news/life-05zb.html

But the stem cell controversy has absolutely nothing to do with what is or what should be going on Vs. Iraq.

I'm a hard core Republican but I agree with spexvet about this. Normally I agree with Bush but I do think that he is really wrong on two things...stem cell research and gay marriage.

    But God loves 'im...

Spex, I'm surprised that you can't see that W has been absolutely consistent: in every case, he chooses the course of action certain to maximize human suffering.

What I find really goofy is that apparently the "destruction of emerging human life" is unethical only if funded by the Feds. HUH????? Does it not make sense that if one holds this position that then one would seek to abolish the practice at the state (e.g. California) and private levels?

Heard Cheney is predicting we will be out of Iraq except for minor admin posts before the end of this presidential term. Great, given Cheney's powers of prediction in this area thus far, I guess this means we'll be there for decades to come!:(

PS if you can, pick up a copy of this week's New Yorker, has a really good article re intelligent design and the science pro/con.
