We hear the stories of the idiot employee, not the good one. People do not leave LC if they have good service. So for the good ones, unfortunately, we do not hear about them even though they are there with a strong presence.
Why does LC get attacked? Well if I talk to Drk or Eddie G I know it is almost impossible for them to become my competition, but LC is competition to us in every city.
LC will always be a force to contend with, but as we have heard many times, we as independants will survive and prosper with quality service and products. I am speaking as an independant that spent 7 years with them. I did learn quite a bit from them and did see that quality of product was not at the top lof the list. A problem was answered with a remake and the hope that this would solve the problem. There were not enough experienced opticians staying long enough to hand down the profession. They at one time had a fellow that gave weekly tips on optical theory and dispensing practices. These tips were really very good, but they ended when as we heard he also left for greener pastures.
As independants we will never compete with their advertising dollar, but enough unhappy customers will fall off to keep us going. Each one of us has built our own client base and can keep growing with satisfying them. LC is focusing on sales and high sales pressure of customers and their associates to make those sales. Rumor has it that associates are "written up" if their 2nd pair percentage is not at company goals. That certainly is not the they way to motivate your associates.
Please do not label me as a LC basher when I am only giving facts. The fact that they have such deep pockets is what allows them to experiment with different sales techniques. They will never be able to give the customer what a quality independant gives... knowledge, time and optical experience
