    Medicare claims

I heard a rumor that some requirements have change for submitting to Medicare/DMERC for glasses. Can anyone give me the specifics?

I don't know of any changes as of the first of the year but maybe I too haven't seen them yet. There were some changes last year pertaining to coding tints, polycarbonate, and the modifiers needed when billing expected denial claims and medically necessary claims. Hmmm.....I hope there's nothing new I'm not doing.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean can you bill Medicare for the glasses using the same provider number as you bill the exam?

Actually, we have 2 different provider #'s as the exam and glasses are billed to 2 different administrators. I'm not sure how it's done in Ny, but I would go to say it's done the same way. Not hard to do though.

You should have a Medicare ID# for the exam and a different DMERC (durable goods) ID# for the glasses. Use the right one or it'll get bounced. The Medicare ID# goes in box 17a, the DMERC ID# goes in box 33 (PIN#).
