    Pets?

What sort of pet person are you?

Since the cat hunting thread picked up a good response I thought this could be fun.

In the interests of complete disclosure I have a rescued Terrier-Chihuahua mix and a long line of small furry creatures (mice or gerbles or rats or whatever happens to be peaking my interest at the moment).

A soft-coated wheaten terrier and two cats. I didn't notice the "children" choice until I was clicking on the vote now button. I have three of them, too.

Yeah, the children line was mostly tongue in cheek though now that I think about it I probably should have included a husband/boyfriend line as well.

My wife and I adopted a greyhound last summer and he takes up less room than our cat. Except when he strecthes out on the couch, but we've really become accustomed to our spots on the floor.

We have a 90 lb. German Shepherd Dog named "Duke" (guess he qualifies as a large dog). Of course, I took about a pound of hair off him yesterday while brushing, so I guess we can make that 89 lbs.!

As for the space he takes up- on the rare occasions he decides to actually move, it seems he always wants to occupy the space between any two people attempting to hug and/or kiss! Anyone kissing in our house is met with whines and nose nudges... The only thing that gets Duke moving faster than the sound of a smooch is the sound of a potato chip hitting the floor (and we've done some experimenting and have found he can hear a potato chip falling on the floor from at least 35' away- even if he appears to be "sleeping").

    A dog with many talents...

We have 2 cats. Just bought a Petfresh drinking fountain for them, and it really works, keeps them from drinking from the drippy bathroom faucet, (and the toilet bowl!).

    So far we have housed:

    2 cats
    1 rabbit
    2 finches
    1 hamster
    1 gerbil
    a lot of fish

2 of 3 kids left home and so did their menageries. The third child is far to absorbed with himself to give time to any other living thing.

We have "Bogey", a miniature dachshund male, 4 years old. He is only 14 lbs but takes up alot of room in the bed, he likes to sleep sideways at our feet.

How is Bogey's skin disorder? Did you ever find out the cause of his outbreak?

Pete and I have a similar problem. Mine is a long hair black Lab named "Spike".

He sheds enough for two dogs and he still comes in at 115lbs.

I have had cats and dogs. The Lab, especially the Black Lab, is the greatest dog ever created. Just don't let them hang with your kids because they will pick up all your kids' bad habits!

Thanks for asking! After several rounds of steroids and blood test and a biopsy, our vet tried ATOPICA for atopic dermatitis. It has worked wonders. Now Bogey is almost cleared completely up, at least 90% better. We were thrilled because he was miserable and he looked terrible. The meds are expensive but we hope to be able to cut the dose down to a couple times a week instead of daily so that will help reduce the cost.

Now if we can keep our 2 year old from driving him crazy, ha!!

18 cats and their pet hamster. The cats all work in the lab to help support themselves.

    Other?

    Maybe an alligator?

A woman was arrested last summer on the Schuykill Express Way that extends from the PA Turnpike at King of Prussia area to Philadelphia for having an unsafe pet. Several cell phone travelers on this stretch reported seeing an alligator's head hanging out the drivers side window. Of course the police and 911 at first thought they were crank calls. Low and behold when the pulled her over there was a 4 foot alligator in the front of the car.

I joke with many of my patients when the appear with severely out of aligned glasses and say "Were you wrestling alligators in your spare time, again?" When this fact was broadcast on the radio, patients in the dispensary at the time thought it was extremely funny and asked if this person was our patient.

Then, there was the 4 foot + iguana I saw in a bathtub at a college kegger back in 1979. No, I wasn't drunk. Freaked me out when I went to the bathroom at an apartment off campus.
