    acuvue oasis

went to launch of new acuvue oasis lens last night, looks to be an awesome product... you can supply them as 2 week flexible wear i.e. a couple of nights overnight wear, or as a weekly continuous wear.I am wearing a pair at the moment and i have to say they are just about the most comfortable lenses i have tried.

Can you post the generic material name? We aren't getting "Oasis" here. Is it galyfilcon?

Is it silicone-hydrogel? Do you have the "Advance" already?

You guys get all the good stuff first...

The product is silicone hydrogel and has a higher Dk/t than galyfilcon. The UK does already have Acuvue Advance. The good news is the material senofilcon is FDA approved in the US.

Yes we have the advance, the oasys uses a similiar silicon hydrogel design but has been beefed up to allow extended wear, in the uk j&j are having to compete
with o2 optix and night and day i think they have lost ground to ciba here, and this may be why the product was launched here.
We should also be getting the new toric in the summer.

What makes them different from the Acuvue Advance? I wasn't able to really get an idea of any significant differences.

Probably one of the most comfortable lenses I've had in my eyes. Been using on myself about six weeks. should be able to order for patients Aug 22nd. I don't think J&J will be marketing it as a 30day continuous wear but who knows what will happen.

    From the info I get:
    1.) More humectant (hydraclear)
    2.) Higher Dk/t
    3.) Less HOH
4.) somehow lower coefficient of friction
    5.) pricier

dr k is correct on all of the above, however what really counts is when the patients try it on, they just cant feel it.
i have switched quite a few night and day patients to this lens, they all tell me it
feels better, plus they feel happier changing the lens weekly( this is the suggested modality when worn as continuous wear lenses.)

Should be available soon? We've been dispensing it for over a month.

I don't wear CLs, and I certainly don't specialize in them, but it's supposed to be pretty nice. However, one of the opticians wears (and swears by) Purevisions, and she went back the to the PVs after a few days of Oasys-wear.

    Thumbs up

Love the oasis. our office was part of the study/testing period. I have been fitting it for about a month. the Dk is 140! I tried it out myself, however I require about a -6.75 so I couldnt see all that great, but they felt wonderful. Many happy patients. ;)

Our Acuvue rep let me try on a pair of Oasis about a month or so ago. They felt great for the first, oh let's say...30 minutes. After that, they became gooey, just like every other CL I attempt to wear. Then again, I'm kinda weird. Focus N&D are the only CL's I can wear for more than two hours without wanting to gouge my own eyes out.

The first day for me they felt good, second they felt bad all day.

N&D I have had poor reactions to, and have not liked myself. I find the 02Optix a much more comfortable lens.

Sounds like you have a good case of dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction

Lets face it most of our new miracles are something to be able to sell something new to the same old patient base. When we rock the boat and try to change something that is working well because the next product claims to be "new and improved" it's going to come back and bite us in the behind occasionally.

Have you noticed that J&J and Ciba have a new and improved miracle every 6 months on a slow year?

Have you ever noticed how many one size fits all lenses come out with a second or third fit after 6 months?

Well I think that has a lot to do with the Advanced being a bomb with many
