Eye Care Centers Of America
ECCA is, I beleive, the second or third largest retail chain in the US
ECCA is the company that let me go after they purchased the company I was working for and he.lped buoild from a single store operations to a 16 store chain in 4 states. I was told by the President of ECCA at that time:
"What I need are people who can sell shoes. If you can sell shoes, you can sell eyewear. Optical knowledge is not necessary."
I told him I make and sell quality eyewear, not shoes. We 'negotiated' my leaving after I said that.

Vision Monday will probably have a story Monday that ECCA was sold to Moulin International Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based eyewear manufacturer and retailer, the same company that attempted to purchase Cole National.
It should be interesting to see what types of marketing they do with ECCA in comparison to Luxottica with Cole National.

Let's just say: I'm not exactly shaking in my shoes.
Way to go Steve!
Anyone trying to relate shoes to eyewear is wacko.
:hammer:
In all fairness I should add that this President is long since gone and I do not know anything abpout the current ECCA management philosophy.

same 'ol, same 'ol, Steve... they still treat eyeglasses like shoes. However, I know at least in my territory there is a movement to get people trained up properly and trying to make opticians out of EWS's. From what I've seen lately, there hasn't been much success, since many of the people can't/won't do the training b/c they are more worried about sales and commissions (we'll see how worried they are when their commissions are taken away until they complete the required units).Originally Posted by Steve Machol
I know of at least one company VP that was some bigwig @ Circuit City telling my former lab manger (a past territory-level lab manager, and had this lab in the top 15% of the company) on a visit how to run/clean a lab and that the shelves in the lab aren't for storing things, b/c it looks "cluttered." we still get a chuckle out of that...
so, in short... nope, they still try to run the place like a Foot Locker or Thom McCann. ;)
