As someone who appreciates a military presense in the world, I would also suggest that those votes were also against the JOBS that would have been created to fullfill their production. And those jobs would provide tax dollars instead of the negative cashflow of unemployment benefits?

Only congress can vote to spend, or cut spending. Every defense cut mentioned above came from a REPUBLICAN controlled congress.........you remember......"the contract with America" brought to us by Newt Gingrich and friends. They are also charged with fiscal responsibility which probably accounted for the budget surplus's we enjoyed at the end of those years.I hope we remember those surplus's well because I fear it will be a very long time before we see one again.

Surprisingly (at least to me) my son is apolitical, or at the least, has indicated that he is. I don't know whether this stems from his Naval Academy,or Marine Corps training, or that he just doesn't want anyone to know of his political preference.I am sure he will be voting, but have absolutely no idea for whom he will vote.....and believe me, I've asked him! He just won't say.......He just gets the biggest kick out of bugging his father! :):)

IMHO, everybody thought the military could be downsized after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Both Reps and Dems, as Harry pointed out. The e-mail is kind of misleading.

Also, International relations can come down to the personal relationship two leaders have. Maybe Kerry will get more cooperation with honey than W got with arrogance.
