    Confused GPC Problems

I have been having problems with GPC for awhile now. Everytime I restart using lenses it acts up. I really want to be able to wear lenses like I used to...I am 19 and glasses, well they don't work. I know it could be worse but I can't help being slightly bitter:idea: . I was wondering if anyone could offer a solution, or experience that could help me.

I was also wondering if ortho k would be helpful once it has cleared up, because as I understand, it is irritated when you blink, so in sleep it shouldnt be as much of a problem...?

Also, what is everyone's stance on Lasik? Should you wait a few years??

Please please help me, I am so frustrated!

Unfortuantely, GPC is like herpes, once you got it, you got it. It is sometimes better than others but once it establishes it will be present.

While most practioners will cringe when I tell you this. It is less of a problem with PMMA lenses, A little more of a problem with Gas Permeable lenses and probably (if you already have a recurring problem) worst with soft contact lenses.

You can play with it with various drops, but it is always there. The causes: Dirty soft contacts. Soft contacts themselves (allergy). Solutions used with soft contacts (allergy). Edge design of soft contacts (personally, I never found any correlation with edge design).

Aking, if you are having problems with your eye health your should seek advice from a local doctor. OptiBoarders can answer questions about terminology and what have you but only a doctor can give you advice on your specific case and any treatments available to you.

    Ortho K/CRT

Corneal Re-shaping may work once the GPC is treated by a doc and your eye is quiet.

Yea I have asked my doctor, I see her quite often. I was just hoping someone else has had a better experience with treating this. I wasn't planning on treating it myself...I was just hoping for some hope I guess.

Well right now it is supposely calmed down, not visible, but everytime I begin wearing them again it acts up...I don't overwear them either, I am very careful with them. I use the aeosept system, with miraflow as well. I also have elestat eyedrops prescribed that I use 2x a day. I use lubricating drops as needed. I wear accuve 2 lenses.

I had GPC once when I was 15, but it wasnt as much of a problem as it is now. I stopped wearing them for awhile, changed lenses(from ciba 6 month disposables) to the accuve. I also changed from Renu solution to complete. I was fine for about 3 years then it happened again.

I have tried eliminating possible causes under the instruction of my doctor. Changed solutions, used allergy drops, I take prescription medicines but that was switched as well. I am now on Zoloft(it doesnt affect me, I took it for years before and had no problems with my eyes while on it, singulair, trazadone, and I am getting off wellbutrin.

I do realize there are more terrible things than wearing glasses, however, I was so much happier in contacts. More free.

Let me know what you think, and thank you so much for your time.

See your M.D. and start wearing glasses. I'm also a R.N. and iIve seen this before, some people get it time after time. See your Dr. and get glasses.

I am wearing them most of the time....what I want is to be able to wear lenses again, or no glasses at all, whatever treatment may help that come true

Consider trying daily disposable lenses. The anti depressants can cause dry eyes as well as your allergy meds. Not a good combo with GPC. That Elestat is good but can get expensive.

Thank you for your advice. I will ask my DR. about the daily disposables. Elestat is cheap with insurance, although I don't like the idea of staying on it long term, as well as my eyes start to crave it.

Its good to hear what opinions other drs have on the subject.
