Maybe they could sell the cars and keep the difference?

This is really nothing new. People who were winning cars on "let's make a deal" and other such shows 30+ years ago complained about the taxes.

To quote Jackson Browne: "Nobody Rides for Free".
    "Coimhéad fearg fhear na foighde"

I think the point I was making, is that most people in that income bracket don't think about things like taxes, because under normal circumstances, they have nothing to worry about.

I would sell the car and pay whatever, and keep the leftovers. it also occurs to me that none of these people "won" a car. It was a gift of which 10K should be written off as such.

    cars

i think what most people forgot was that Oprah made herself look good, but did anyone notice she did not spend a dime on these cars, she talked pontiac into donating all of them.

On the other hand she used her power and influence to help people out. I suppose she also bolstered her own power and influence.

    Urgent from CENTCOM

In a seriously expensive PR stunt — worth more than $7.7 million — 276 guests at the taping of the first episode of Oprah Winfrey's 2004-2005 TV show were handed the keys to a new Pontiac G6 sedan.

Urgent from CENTCOM: How many of those freebie Pontiac G6s do ya think it would take to pacify Sadr City --?

When the facts are known, the public supports the mission.

I have no way of knowing but would be willing to bet Pontiac approached Oprah as a way to launch this new car. Look at the free publicity!

All of them. In Sadr City, a Pontiac is considered a weapon.
